Michigan Walleye and Bass Fishing Report - Fall 2018

Michigan Walleye and Bass Fishing Report - Fall 2018

Across the state of Michigan, the walleye fishing is starting to pick up. Inland lake bass fishing has been fantastic and will continue through fall. Presented by Captain Ben Wolfe of Sport Fish Michigan.

Hi, I'm Captain Ben Wolfe with Sport Fish Michigan and I've got a fishing report for you for the State of Michigan. It's late October and we've got a beautiful day here. We're going to get out and try to enjoy it. We're going to look for some walleyes today on an inland lake. Speaking of walleyes - all across the state the walleye fishing is really starting to pick up. Inland lakes - jigging raps are a great option, snap raps - something that's going to get their attention. The action bite is going to be a critical thing on those inland lakes. If we have a finesse period - something like a swimbait to rip through the dying weeds is a good option, as well. Also, walleye anglers fishing river systems, the Saginaw system is really starting to pick up, the Detroit River, and the St. Clair River. Those are all starting to be great, viable options here as we get into the late fall period. Jigging vertical, or even casting if it's not snagging, can be a great tool to finding walleyes as well as loading a boat with those fall-run walleyes in the river system. Also, on the inland lakes, we've got some fantastic, fantastic, really fun smallmouth fishing. Swimbaits, umbrella rigs, rattle-traps, spinner baits if it's windy. Those are all fantastic options for that fall bite. Lake St. Clair is producing some really big fish, as well. Get out when you have the calmer weather. Enjoy the fall weather that we have. Get out and enjoy the fishing. I promise you - you'll have fun. River Fishing Report - October 2018

River Fishing Report - October 2018

Northwestern Michigan river fishing report including information on steelhead, brown trout, and late-season salmon fishing presented by Captain Chad Dilts of Sport Fish Michigan.

Hi, I'm Captain Chad Dilts with Sport Fish Michigan. We're in the middle of October, and we've had a blast of cool air. This has made for some awesome late salmon fishing. We've had some cold nights and good rains. With the combination of rain and north wind we've actually had some very late pushes of king and coho salmon. It has lead into some spectacular steelhead fishing. We're starting to see a few good numbers in the lower portion of each river system. We've been doing well fishing beads and spawn, but we've also had good success with clients fishing fly gear. It's a good time for everybody to get out and take advantage of some awesome brown trout opportunities and fall steelhead opportunities. Everyone should really get out and take advantage of the awesome fall color and the tremendous fishery we have in northern Michigan. If you're looking for a Captain or Guide in the State of Michigan, please give us a call or check us out on the web at www.SportFishMichigan.com.

Catching Winslow a Bass

Catching Winslow a Bass

Winslow, my trusty yellow lab and I took out the boat, a GoPro camera, and put it up on a ski pole on the back of the Ranger. I'm going to try to catch Winslow a bass, and get it on film to show everybody else, his love of smallmouth. Here is that short video of me catching Winslow a bass. A smallmouth bass.
